Marshmallows

The sky was purple-blue, starlit, shrinking moon;
As a cigarette burned
I watched the kids splash and scream and
hold their breaths underwater.
Then as the summer night cooled
We lit the brick fireplace with the dumpster wood
And watched the art of Miyazaki.
Bright as night, sleepless, we
conversed, my feet dangling in the pool water.
Your words still dance, every moment, in my memory.
